Join GROW Local South Texas for our 2nd Annual Learning Garden Neighborhood Party, a celebration of our community teaching garden.

The GROW Local STX Learning Garden Neighborhood Party is a play day at the Garden with food, tours and fun—an open house to show Corpus Christi the potential of what a community garden can be with two goals.

    1. A play day, family-style cookout and Garden tours.
    2. A fundraising opportunity for program operations at the Garden!

We’re excited to announce that this year our BBQ protein is locally-sourced. For $5/plate, enjoy chicken or a burger, both served with rice, beans, lettuce, tomato and onion. In addition, bring your own potluck side to share. Pre-purchase your locally-sourced BBQ dinner by purchasing your $5 meal in advance at our online store.

The Learning Garden is GROW Local STX’s 2-acre, hands-on community teaching garden. Daily, we are GROWing experienced gardeners in the Coastal Bend and teaching folks how to work side-by-side in a safe, community learning space.

This year we celebrate The Learning Garden’s success. In the past 12 months, the Learning Garden has:

    • expanded infrastructure with a new shed, hoop house and restroom facility
    • launched our Educational Beehive Program with a working, onsite educational beehive
    • hosted monthly All Hands on Deck Volunteer days which have yielded 25 new raised beds, planting tables and a well-organized, built-out, painted shed
    • yielded and distributed over 8,000 lbs. of fresh, local produce
    • grown the number of Garden Apprentices that actively work the Garden while learning how to GROW, harvest, sell and teach others how to GROW food
    • hosted classes, field trips and our first Living Local Summer Camp
    • Started a weekly Garden Club with Oak Park Recreation Center’s free after school program
    • purchased a riding lawn mower to take maintenance of the Garden from the city

We’ve learned that these programs can only GROW when they’re supported by everyone in the community.
