Help GROW the Local Food System

awesomeOur vision for South Texas is a healthy, vital community through the power of an ever-GROWing local food system, but we’re up against big odds.

GROW – Demand for local food is outpacing the number of farmers and backyard gardeners that are producing it.
Access – South Texas remains a USDA Food Desert defined as, “parts of the country vapid of fresh fruit, vegetables, and other healthful whole foods.”
Educate – A lack of experiential instructors teaching South Texas’ unique seasonality, organic practices and a preference toward local GROWing has created a network of failed community, backyard and schoolyard gardens and produce consumers with a lack of vital nutritional knowledge.
    Advocate
     – South Texas’ LOCAL food policy is practically nonexistent with outdated ordinances, permitting practices and the lack of any local food policy council.

Please consider joining the other amazing individuals, families, foundations, corporate partners and incredible volunteers who make our work possible.

Why Support GROW Local South Texas

GROW Local South Texas is an interlocking system of programs designed to create more locally-grown food for you (and us) while teaching as many people as possible why it’s important and how to GROW it. GROW Local South Texas is creating more farmers, more backyard gardening, more local food on local menus and more local commerce. It demonstrates how a robust local food system creates health, quality of life, economy and a better community.

In 2012, a group of local food enthusiasts threw a party that became a Farmers’ Market.
4 years later, The Corpus Christi Downtown Farmers’ Market is a Bayfront institution. We are open every Wednesday evening at The Art Center of Corpus Christi from 5:00-8:00pm.
